Devrik Cümleler –Inversions

Devrik yapılar yapılan eylemin, yani fiilin öznenin önüne alınmasıyla oluşturulurlar. İngilizce’de cümle başına “behind, in the middle of, beside” gibi ilgeçler, never, nowhere, hardly, neither gibi olumsuzluk ifade eden zarflar ya da if, so....that, such.... that, just as, so gibi zarf cümlecikleri gelirse ardından devrik yapı kullanılır. Devrik cümlelerde soru cümlelerine benzer bir yapı vardır.

The best singer is standing behind the microphone.

--En iyi şarkıcı mşkrofonun ardında duruyor.

Behind the microphone is standing the best singer.

--Mikrofonun ardında en iyi şarkıcı duruyor.

She was neither beautiful nor tallented.

Neither was she beautiful nor was she tallented.-- Ne güzeldi ne de yetenekli.

Nerelerde kullanırız?

Devrik cümleleri,

1) Konum bildiren ilgeçlerle kullanırız:

A beautiful lady was singing under the tree.

Under the tree was singing a beautiful lady

-- Ağacın altında sarkı söylüyordu güzel bir kadın.

In front of the window is sitting a wild cat.

--Pencerenin önünde oturuyor vahşi bir kedi.

Here comes the taxi.

--İşte geliyor taksi.

2) Olumsuz zarflarla birlikte kullanırız:

The rain had hardly/scarcely started when she came.

Hardly / scarcely had the rain started when she came

--Neredeyse henüz başlamıştı yağmur o geldiğinde.

Never have I asked such a question.

--Hiç bir zaman sormadım öyle bir soru.

She went and also she took the child with her.

Not only did she go but also she took the child with her.

--Sadece o gitmedi üstelik çocuğu da götürdü.

You aren’t allowed to smoke here.

On no account are you allowed to smoke here.

--Hiç bir koşulda burda sigara içmenize izin verilmez.

3) Koşul cümlecikleriyle kullanırız:

*Present Tense için “if” yerine devrik cümlede “should” kullanılır.

If you change your mind, please let us know.

Should you change your mind, please let us know.

--Değiştirirseniz fikrinizi, lütfen bize haber verin.

*Past Tense için if yerine “were” ve “were to” kullanılılır.

If she revealed my secret, my boss would fire me.

Were she to reveal my secret, my boss would fire me.

--Eğer o benim sırrımı açıklasaydı, patronum beni kovardı.

If they were in the theatre, they would see us.

Were they in theatre, they would see us.

-- Tiyatroda olsalardı eğer, bizi görürlerdi.

*Past perfect de ise yardımcı fiil “had” cümlenin başına alınır ve “if”in anlamını üstlenir.

If we had known the truth., everything would have been different.

Had we known the truth, everytig would have been different

-- Gerçeği biliyor olsaydık, herşey çok farklı olurdu.

If you had come early, you would have met your cousin.

Had you come early, you would have met your cousin.

--Erken gelmiş olsaydın, kuzeninle karşılaşacaktın.

4) Devrik cümleleri sonuç bildiren zarf cümlecikleri ile de kullanırız.:

I felt so sad that nothing could cheer me.

So sad did I feel that nothing could cheer me.

--O kadar üzgündüm ki hiçbir şey beni neşelendiremedi.

He has bought her such a beautiful dress that everybody admires.

Such a beautiful dress has he bought for her that everybody admires.
